A Powerball winner donates $100,000 of his $487 million prize money to a series of New Hampshire NGOs. What a nice guy! There are little people with absolute golden hearts and this Powerball winner is definitely in that mix, so few people use their winnings to help others in need.
The recipient of the winnings has chosen to remain anonymous. They claimed their tremendous windfall by creating a Trust named “Robin Egg 2016 Nominee Trust.” The Trust was facilitated by the lawyer firm Shaheen & Gordon. The Trustees announced their donation during a press conference at the New Hampshire Lottery Headquarters in Concord.
Although the family wants to remain anonymous, they won’t be strangers in the philanthropic responsibilities of becoming a multi-millionaire. Their winning Powerball ticket was bought from Hannaford Supermarket in Raymond in the draw that took place on the 30th of July 2016.
The Powerball winner had the option of accepting their prize in the form of a cash lump sum, or as an annuity. They chose the cash option and walked away with $256.3 million after taxes.
“This winning Powerball ticket has received an extraordinary amount of interest. While we certainly wish we could have met our Powerball winners in person, we appreciate and respect that they have chosen to try to live as normal a life as possible,” said the executive director of the New Hampshire Lottery Commission.
He added, “This is a life-changing amount of money and we are extremely happy to learn about the winners’ intention to make a major philanthropic impact with their winnings. This has been an incredibly exciting time for the New Hampshire Lottery and all of our players here in New Hampshire.”
